“Rita Quinn is a modern portrait and lifestyle photographer who lives in Austin, TX and has been doing photography since…” BLAH BLAH BLAH! I really hate those kind of about me pages, don’t you? BORING! When I go to an About Me page, I want to know about the real person and I’m guessing you do too since you’re here. So I’m breaking with tradition and just going do things my own way. Okay, here goes:
My dogs Bella and Mia always bring a smile to my face. My husband, Val, is my hero. I have a sailboat but don’t know how to sail. I grew up a hippy kid in California. I’m addicted to my iPhone and facebook. I often speak movie, as in, I can have a short conversation just from quoting movies. Song lyrics are a close second to this, but more as an inspiration for myself. I often get teary-eyed way too easily over simple things that touch my heart. I love roadtrips and scarves. I lost my voice when I saw Bon Jovi in concert. I get really passionate (translation: “obsessed”) over things I love. (For example, I read the Twilight books series in like 4 days. The whole series. I was basically up around the clock. Team Edward!) Did I mention I love to read? I remember getting in trouble as a kid for hiding under the covers to read with my handy Micky Mouse flashlight when I was supposed to be asleep. I have an amazingly awesome 19 year old son, which always generates the reaction “No way! You have a 19 year old son??!!” Which I have to admit, I secretly love. Thanks mom for the great genes.
Ohh, here’s another secret: turning my back on the corporate world and finally doing something that makes my heart sing is, well, SCARY! And I heartily recommend it to everyone. “Live your life with arms wide open – today is where your book begins.” (courtesy of Natasha Beddingfield)
As for photography specific stuff, well, I shoot all Canon DSLR and have recently had a hankerin’ (is that a word?) to pick up a film camera and maybe even create my own darkroom. I love photographing people who like to have fun and be creative. I want your experience with me to be more like playing than posing. With my life-long love for photojournalism, I prefer to just find a great backdrop with interesting light, give you a few ideas to work with, and then just let my camera take it all in as it happens. However, I have to say that I think I’d also like to one day get into fashion photography and love it when a client likes to incorporate a little “style and attitude” into their session.
My goal as a photographer is to capture all the life, love, emotion, authenticity, and glorious beauty found within each of us. I always tell my clients how much I love them and they joke back “Oh, you say that to everyone.” And they’re right: I DO! And I mean it each and every time. It’s not like there’s a “love tank” that reads FULL or EMPTY and you’re limited to just that amount. I say let the love flow! Like John and Paul said, all you “All you need is love.” And I believe it’s true. That’s why I chose my little bee with a heart for wings for my logo, because with love … we can all fly!
